What’s this Group FaceTime thing in iOS 12 & macOS Mojave?
Apple's Group FaceTime allows multiple people to video calls with each other using iOS 12 and macOS Mojave devices.
What is Group FaceTime?
With Group FaceTime Apple was adding one of the first major updates to FaceTime in a few years. Calls could include up to 32 participants with a carousel along the bottom to show all participants. It automatically highlighted those talking by bringing them to the front of the screen.
Effects such as stickers and the newly announced Memoji can be applied in real time (on iOS only) during the call for a more fun experience.
How do I make a Group FaceTime call?
It is essentially the same as it is right now but instead of typing in one name you type in more than one. The various participants will be called as normal, and as each picks up they will be added to the chat. You can also convert a group chat in Messages to a group video call.
That sounds great, so when will it be released?
Apple's Group FaceTime, one of the new flagship features of iOS 12 & macOS Mojave, is being delayed and will no longer be included their expected September launches. The feature has been removed from the recent beta versions of iOS 12 & macOS Mojave and Apple has advised developers that it will not be included in the initial release.
The release of iOS 12 and macOS Mojave have not yet been confirmed but will likely happen mid to late September. Apple has advised that Group FaceTime will come out later this Spring.
