What is changing in macOS Server?
Apple has announced changes to it's macOS Server app to be unveiled in Autumn 2018. The updates will focus on management of computers, devices and storage on your network. They will also be removing several services which may affect a number of small businesses.
Details of the new features are yet to be announced but will likely allow for easier configuration and management of Macs, iPhones & iPads un your business.
As more and more businesses move their services to the cloud it makes less sense for Apple to maintain local server services. Apple has decided that the following services will be deprecated from the macOS server app.
- Contacts
- Calendar
- DHCP
- DNS
- Messages
- NetInstall
- VPN
- Websites
- Wiki
While the update will remove the above from the app interface they will continue to operate in the Autumn update. Apple recommends planning replacements as they will be completely removed in a future update. Your Mac Tech's experienced technicians can provide assistance moving to replacement services.
