What to expect at the Apple iPhone Event Next Week?

Apple is hosting its annual iPhone event in Steve Jobs Theatre at Apple Park on the 11th of the September at 3am (AEST).

The tag line of the event invite is “By innovation only”. The tagline usually provide a hint for what to expect but this years is quite vague. You can watch the event live if you can’t sleep on the Apple website.

Apple is expected to unveil three new iPhones, two OLED models in 5.8 and 6.5 inches and one LCD model that’s 6.1 inches. The formats will remain unchanged but will see other improvements.

The two higher end OLED models are expected to include triple lens cameras. The new camera setup will include a telephoto lens, a wide-angle lens, and a new super-wide angle lens. The 6.1 inch model is expected to include a dual lens camera for the first time.

A new matte finish is expected for the new iPhones in addition to featuring better shatter and water resistance. Face ID is being improved and will work from more angles and 3D Touch is expected to be eliminated in favour of the haptic feedback system introduced on the iPhone XR. Two way wireless charging, bigger batteries, a new AMX co-processor and A13 chip are also expected.

There are also expected to be some minor updates to the Apple Watch including speed bumps and new finished. There may be some iPad updates but this is more likely later in the year and Apple is not expected to unveil nay Mac updates at the event.

Apple should also release iOS 13 ahead of the new iPhones as well as macOS Catalina, watchOS 6, iPadOS, and tvOS 13.
