Mac mini, iMac or Mac Studio: Which Desktop Mac Is Right for Your Business?
Mac mini, iMac or Mac Studio for your business? See what each desktop suits, Australian prices, and why high-memory Mac Studios have long waits.

Not every role needs a laptop. For reception, accounts, design or anyone who works at the same desk every day, a desktop Mac is often better value and lasts just as long. Apple makes three, and each suits a different kind of work.
Mac mini: the best value for most desks
Mac mini is a small box that sits under your monitor. You choose your own screen, keyboard and mouse, which makes it the cheapest way into a desktop Mac, and easy to fit into an existing office.
It starts at A$1,4491 with the M6 chip, which comfortably handles email, Microsoft 365, accounting software and video calls. The M5 Pro model, from A$2,6991, suits heavier work such as large spreadsheets, photo editing or design. Memory goes up to 64GB, and you can add faster 10Gb Ethernet for offices with a fast network or a NAS.
For most office staff, Mac mini is the one we recommend.
iMac: everything in one
iMac puts the computer, a 24-inch 4.5K screen, camera, microphones and speakers into one slim unit, so there is only one cable to the wall. It suits reception desks, shared workstations and anyone who wants a tidy desk with no extra parts to buy.
It starts at A$2,3991 with the M4 chip, with up to 32GB of memory. It is not the most powerful option, but for general office work it is more than enough.
Mac Studio: for the heaviest work
Mac Studio is built for demanding work: video production, 3D, large data sets, software development and running AI models on the Mac itself. It starts at A$4,2991 with the M5 Max chip, and the M5 Ultra model starts at A$9,4991. Memory goes up to 256GB, with even more on the way for M5 Ultra.
If you are not sure whether someone needs a Mac Studio, a Mac mini with M5 Pro is almost always the better buy.
Long waits for high-memory Mac Studios
Demand for Macs that can run AI tools locally has outstripped supply, and Apple has said it underestimated how many people would buy Mac Studio and Mac mini for this. That pressure is now concentrated on the high-memory Mac Studio configurations. Orders for 256GB models are currently back-ordered into February 2027.
If you need a high-memory Mac Studio, order early and plan around the wait. If the timing matters more than the memory, a lower-memory configuration will arrive much sooner. Our guide to running AI locally on a Mac explains how much memory local AI actually needs.
Which to choose
Choose Mac mini for most staff, with M5 Pro for heavier work. Choose iMac where an all-in-one setup and a tidy desk matter most. Choose Mac Studio only for the most demanding work.
