Apple’s Far Out Event: iPhone 14, Apple Watch Ultra and AirPods Pro 2

Apple's Far Out event brings the iPhone 14 family, Apple Watch Series 8, the new Apple Watch Ultra and second-generation AirPods Pro.

Apple’s Far Out event introduced the iPhone 14 family, Apple Watch Series 8, a lower-cost Watch SE, the new rugged Apple Watch Ultra and second-generation AirPods Pro. Safety features and outdoor use were recurring themes.

iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus

The standard iPhone 14 keeps the A15 Bionic design from iPhone 13 Pro, improves the main and front cameras, and adds Crash Detection and Emergency SOS via satellite in supported countries. The larger iPhone 14 Plus replaces the mini size with a 6.7-inch display.

The satellite feature is designed for emergencies when mobile and Wi-Fi coverage are unavailable. Regional availability will matter, so Australian support should be confirmed rather than assumed.

iPhone 14 Pro and Dynamic Island

The Pro models introduce an always-on display, the A16 Bionic chip and a 48-megapixel main camera. The familiar display cut-out becomes Dynamic Island, a software area that expands to show alerts and ongoing activities.

These are more visible changes than on the standard models, but the choice still comes down to whether the camera system, ProMotion display and premium materials justify the extra cost.

Apple Watch Series 8, SE and Ultra

Series 8 adds temperature sensing, Crash Detection and new cycle-tracking information. The second-generation Watch SE keeps the essential safety and fitness features at a lower price.

Apple Watch Ultra is a new 49mm titanium model for endurance, diving and outdoor use. It adds an Action button, a brighter display, longer battery life, stronger GPS and a depth gauge. Its size and specialist focus make it unnecessary for many everyday Watch users.

AirPods Pro 2

The second-generation AirPods Pro use the new H2 chip for stronger noise cancellation, improved sound and Adaptive Transparency. Touch control on the stem can adjust volume, while the charging case gains a speaker and Precision Finding support.

The shape remains close to the original AirPods Pro, which should make the update familiar rather than disruptive.

Availability

Orders open this week, with most products arriving later this month. iPhone 14 Plus follows in October. Before upgrading, check eSIM requirements, regional safety-feature support, case compatibility and whether an existing Apple Watch band still suits the new case size.

The Apple Watch Ultra is the entirely new product. The iPhone 14 Pro receives the largest iPhone changes, while Series 8 and AirPods Pro 2 are more focused refinements.
