Apple’s California Streaming Event: iPhone 13, Apple Watch Series 7 and iPad mini
Apple has announced the iPhone 13 range, Apple Watch Series 7, a redesigned iPad mini and an updated standard iPad for the year ahead.

Apple’s California Streaming event has introduced the iPhone 13 family, Apple Watch Series 7, a completely redesigned iPad mini and an updated standard iPad. The theme is refinement: better cameras, screens, battery life and performance rather than a new category of device.
iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini
The standard iPhone 13 models use the new A15 Bionic chip, brighter OLED displays and a smaller TrueDepth camera area. The rear cameras are arranged diagonally and gain sensor-shift stabilisation, while Cinematic mode can shift focus during video.
Battery life is also improved, which addresses the main weakness of the smaller iPhone 12 mini.
iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max
The Pro models add a ProMotion display that can refresh up to 120Hz, a brighter screen and a three-camera system with better low-light performance. Macro photography and improved telephoto reach broaden the camera options, while ProRes video is planned for a later software update.
For most buyers, the standard iPhone 13 remains the practical choice. The Pro models make more sense for people who value camera control, smoother scrolling and premium materials.
Apple Watch Series 7
Series 7 has a larger display in a case that remains close to the previous size. Apple says it is more durable, charges faster and can show more text and larger controls.
There is no new health sensor this year. Existing Series 6 owners will see a modest change, while people coming from an older Watch will notice a larger difference.
iPad mini and standard iPad
The sixth-generation iPad mini receives the biggest redesign of the day, with an 8.3-inch all-screen design, USB-C, Touch ID in the top button, A15 Bionic and support for the second-generation Apple Pencil. The front camera gains Center Stage.
The ninth-generation standard iPad moves to A13 Bionic, adds Center Stage and starts with more storage while keeping its familiar design and Lightning connector.
Preparing to upgrade
The new iPhones and iPads will be available later this month. Apple Watch Series 7 is due later in spring. Back up the old device first, and check case, connector, Pencil and keyboard compatibility before reusing accessories.
The iPad mini is the most substantial redesign. The iPhone 13 line improves the areas people use every day, while Series 7 is mainly about a larger and easier-to-read display.
