HomePod mini 2 Explained: Sound Glow, Siri AI & What It Costs
HomePod mini 2 explained: Sound Glow, surround sound with Apple TV 4K, Siri AI coming in a software update, five colours and A$229 from 30 October.

HomePod mini 2 is the first update to Apple’s small smart speaker in years. It adds new colours, a light display on top called Sound Glow and, later, Siri AI. In Australia it costs A$2291, and it is available from Friday 30 October 2026. This guide covers what is new and what to know before you buy. It is part of our Welcome Home coverage.
Siri AI is coming later
The main catch is that HomePod mini 2 does not have Siri AI at launch. Apple says it is coming in a future software update, and has not said when. Usage limits apply to Siri AI, and it is a beta that works in English to start.
When it arrives, Apple says HomePod mini can recognise up to six people in a household by their voice, and connect to their devices across apps like Messages and timers while playing music. When it is paired with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad, it can use your personal context. Our Siri AI guide explains what that means.
Sound and Sound Glow
HomePod mini 2 has 360-degree sound from a compact body. It uses the S10 chip and updated sound processing to produce room-filling sound and stronger bass from a small speaker. It can fill a room on its own, work as a stereo pair or be used for multiroom audio.
Sound Glow lights the top of the speaker in time with the music. The colours are drawn from the album artwork of whatever is playing. You can also choose a soundscape, and Sound Glow matches its mood.
It can also work as a speaker for your Mac, for movies, games and video calls. If you are listening on your iPhone and walk into a room, you can bring the phone close to the speaker to hand the music over.
Surround sound with the new Apple TV 4K
For the first time you can pair four speakers with the new Apple TV 4K for surround sound. You can combine HomePod mini 2 and HomePod speakers. The system recognises where each speaker is in the room and calibrates the timing and levels automatically. See our Apple TV 4K guide.
Smart home hub and Intercom
HomePod mini acts as a home hub. It lets you control HomeKit and Matter-enabled accessories remotely, so you can check the front door, shut the garage or lock the house through the Home app. With several HomePod speakers, Intercom lets you send a voice message to the whole house or to a single room.
Colours and design
It comes in five colours: pink, green, blue, white and midnight. The mesh is two-tone, the top has backlit touch controls, and the power cord is woven and colour-matched.
