Online Safety & Protection

Staying safe online isn’t about becoming a security expert, it’s about having the right things in place so you don’t have to think about it day to day. We help home users protect their devices and their information without making everything more complicated.

Protecting your Mac from viruses & malware

We help set up appropriate anti-virus and malware protection for your Mac, and if you’re already worried something might have got onto your machine, we can check it over properly and remove anything that shouldn’t be there.

Keeping your devices up to date

Software and security updates matter more than most people realise, on your Mac and on your iPhone and iPad too, since an out-of-date device on any of these is one of the easiest ways for something to go wrong. We help make sure macOS, iOS, iPadOS and your key apps are all kept properly updated across your devices, without it becoming a constant interruption.

Passwords & account security

We help you get set up with a password manager properly, so you’re not reusing the same weak password everywhere, and help configure two-factor authentication on your important accounts, like your Apple ID, email and banking, so they’re properly protected.

Spam, scam emails & phishing protection

A lot of the real risk these days comes from scam emails, fake text messages, and phone calls pretending to be from a bank or a well-known company. We help set up spam filtering to cut down on the junk reaching your inbox, and we’re happy to help you recognise the warning signs of a genuine scam attempt.

Fake virus warnings & pop-ups

If Safari or another browser keeps showing alarming warnings that your Mac is infected, demanding you call a number or download something immediately, this is almost always a scare tactic, not a genuine problem, real macOS security alerts never work this way. If you’re ever unsure, it’s always safer to close the browser and check with us rather than clicking anything.

Already clicked on something you shouldn’t have?

If you’re ever worried you’ve clicked on a suspicious link, opened a dodgy attachment, or given out information you now regret, we can help check things over, change any passwords that need changing, and put your mind at ease either way. This is also an area where we’re happy to spend a bit of extra time with older family members or anyone who’s less confident with technology, since the risks, and the confidence needed to spot them, are often different.
