Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) kicks off next week. Although software focused for developers Apple usually sneaks in some hardware announcements. If you are considering a Mac purchase it might be best to hold off for a few days.

What's WWDC?

WWDC provides an opportunity for millions of developers to learn more about Apple's platforms for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV, Mac and HomePod. The conference is for developers and helps them prepare for upcoming releases to updates their apps and hardware to take advantage of the updates.

It kicks off with a keynote presentation, which is streamed live and provides an overview of the major announcements.

Can I watch the keynote?

Yes, Apple provides a live stream (and a recording later) of the keynote presentation which can be accessed here: https://www.apple.com/apple-events/june-2018/. iOS devices must be running iOS 10 or later, while Macs need to be running macOS Sierra 10.12 or later. If you have an Apple TV you can download the Apple Events app to stream it live or watch it later.

For insomniacs and those Apple enthusiasts that want to watch live keynote it is next Tuesday the 5th of June at 3am AEST. Add it to your calendar.

What awesome stuff is coming?

The rumour mill has been very quiet this year in the lead up to the event with not many reliable rumours circulating to date.

The next versions of macOS, iOS, tvOS & watchOS will be announced with developer version of the software made available to developers to ensure their apps are ready. The biggest rumour currently circulating is that developers will be able to release a single app that will work across Macs, iPhone and iPads.

A number of Macs are in need of a refresh and could see an update during the keynote. The MacBook Pro, MacBook and iMac are the currently most likely for updates. Apple could also use the event to launch the AirPower wireless charger for iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods which we've been waiting for since its September announcement.

It is also rumoured that Apple will be making improvements to Siri and expanding support out to it's Beats range of speakers.
