Issue with your MacBook or MacBook Pro Keyboard?

If your MacBook (2015 -17) or MacBook Pro (2016-17) is experiencing issues with the keyboard it may be eligible for an an Apple Service Program. It looks like the issues are resolved in the new 2018 MacBook Pro.

Apple says that customers can bring an affected MacBook or MacBook Pro into an Apple retail store to receive repairs free of charge. The service may include individual key replacement or entire keyboard replacement.

The models included in the program are:

  • MacBook (Retina, 12-­inch, Early 2015)
  • MacBook (Retina, 12­-inch, Early 2016)
  • MacBook (Retina, 12-­inch, 2017)
  • MacBook Pro (13­-inch, 2016, Two Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
  • MacBook Pro (13-­inch, 2017, Two Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
  • MacBook Pro (13-­inch, 2016, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
  • MacBook Pro (13-­inch, 2017, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
  • MacBook Pro (15-­inch, 2016)
  • MacBook Pro (15-­inch, 2017)

If you are experiencing one of the following issues you should book into the Apple store for a service.

  • Letters or characters repeat unexpectedly
  • Letters or characters do not appear
  • Key(s) feel "sticky" or do not respond in a consistent manner

The new 2018 MacBook Pro includes a new silicone layer protecting the keyboard mechanisms from the dust and other particles suspected of causing these issues.
