High Sierra 10.13.4 released, what’s new?

Apple has released the latest version of macOS High Sierra which includes external GPU support, Business Chat, a new smokey wallpaper and a warning to prepare for the end of 32bit apps.

Support for External Graphics Processors (eGPUs)

Apple is adding support for eGPUs to Thunderbolt 3 equipped Macs allowing the following features:

  • Accelerate applications that use Metal, OpenGL, and OpenCL
  • Connect additional external monitors and displays
  • Use virtual reality headsets plugged into the eGPU
  • Charge your MacBook Pro while using the eGPU
  • Use an eGPU with your MacBook Pro while its built-in display is closed 
  • Connect an eGPU while a user is logged in
  • Connect more than one eGPU using the multiple Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports on your Mac
  • View the activity levels of built-in and external GPUs. Open Activity Monitor, then choose Window > GPU History.

32Bit app Warning

macOS 10.13.4 introduces a warning when opening up a 32-bit app as part of an effort to phase them out completely in an upcoming release. If you have critical software that is 32bit only you should consider contacting your software provider or finding an alternate software product. Contact us if you would like some assistance.

Privacy Improvements

Apple's strong commitment to security and privacy continues with macOS 10.13.14 (and iOS 11.3) by including a new privacy icon that shows up whenever Apple is asking for your personal information, like your Apple ID password, so that you can verify that the request is legitimate and from Apple.
 

Business Chat - US Only at the moment

Business Chat is a new way for users to communicate directly with businesses using the Messages app on iPhone and iPad.
 

What Else?

  • Fixes graphics corruption issues affecting certain apps on iMac Pro.
  • Allows jumping to the rightmost open tab using Command-9 in Safari.
  • Enables sorting of Safari bookmarks by name or URL by Control-clicking and choosing Sort By.
  • Fixes an issue that may prevent web link previews from appearing in Messages.
  • Displays warnings in the Safari Smart Search field when interacting with password or credit card forms on unencrypted webpages.
  • Improves Spotlight search results for files stored on network mounts.
  • Properly evaluates Access Control Lists on SMB share points.
